Getting Started

What is a DTF transfer?
DTF (Direct to Film) is a printing method where your design is printed onto a special film, coated with a heat-activated adhesive powder, and then heat-pressed onto fabric. The result is a vibrant, wash-durable print that works on almost any fabric type — cotton, polyester, blends, even nylon and leather.
Do I need any special equipment to use DTF transfers?
Yes — you'll need a heat press. A standard clamshell or swing-arm heat press works perfectly. You don't need an expensive industrial press; an entry-level press from $200–$400 is enough for most home or small-business use.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No minimum. You can order a single transfer or 10,000 — we treat every order with the same care. Pricing scales with quantity, so larger orders cost less per unit, but there's no floor.
How long does it take to receive my order?
Standard production is 2–3 business days after artwork approval. Add 1–3 days for shipping depending on your location. Express (next-day production) and same-day rush options are available — see our Pricing page for details.
Are DTF transfers suitable for my fabric?
DTF transfers work on cotton, polyester, poly-cotton blends, nylon, denim, and leather. They do not work well on heavily textured surfaces (e.g. canvas weave) or waterproof membranes. If you're unsure, contact us before ordering.
DTF vs DTG vs screen printing vs HTV — which should I choose?
Short answer: DTF wins for small-to-medium runs (1–500), full-colour designs, and mixed fabric types. Screen printing is cheaper above ~500 of the same design. DTG is dedicated to cotton garments only. HTV (heat-transfer vinyl) is single-colour and labour-intensive for multi-colour designs. Files & Artwork

Preparing your artwork

What's the best file format to send?
PNG with a transparent background is our preferred format — it's simple, widely supported, and gives us clean edges without any background colour. PDF, AI, and EPS are ideal for vector artwork. Avoid JPEG for designs with fine details or text.
My design is in Canva. How do I export it correctly?
In Canva, export as PNG with "Transparent background" checked. Make sure your design is at least 300 DPI — set the canvas size in millimetres at the actual print size (e.g. 200mm × 200mm), then export at 300 DPI. Avoid exporting from a tiny canvas and scaling up.
What does "transparent background" mean and why does it matter?
A transparent background means the areas around your design have no colour — they're "see-through". When you press a transfer with transparency, only your design transfers to the garment, not a white or coloured rectangle around it.
Can you match Pantone colours?
DTF printing uses CMYK (full colour process), which can reproduce most colours very accurately but is not a true Pantone match system. For trade and bulk orders, we offer Pantone-approximate matching and can provide a pre-production proof on request.
My artwork has very fine lines or small text. Will it print clearly?
Fine lines and small text are possible but require attention. Lines under 0.5mm may not reproduce cleanly, and text under 8pt can lose legibility. If you have detailed artwork, we'll check it and flag any concerns before printing.
What if I'm not confident about my file? Can you check it before I order?
Yes. Upload your file in the order form and we'll review it as part of the process. If there are any issues, we'll tell you before we print — at no charge.
Ordering & Pricing

How ordering works

How do I place an order?
Head to the online order wizard — pick your service, upload your artwork, and submit. We'll review your file and confirm pricing within 2 business hours. Once you approve, we go to print.
Are your prices GST inclusive?
Yes. Every price displayed on inkfusiondtf.com.au includes 10% Australian GST. Your tax invoice shows GST as a separate line item for your accounting records. Registered businesses can claim GST back through their BAS.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit and debit cards, bank transfer, PayPal, and Afterpay (for eligible orders). Payment details are confirmed in your quote.
Can I get a refund if I'm not happy with the print quality?
Yes. If your transfer has a quality defect — poor colour, misprints, adhesion issues — we reprint at no charge. We don't offer refunds for artwork errors where the file was approved before printing.
What happens if my order is late?
If we miss our committed turnaround (not due to courier delay), we'll prioritise a reprint and cover express shipping at our cost. Shipping delays by couriers are unfortunately outside our control, but we'll always provide tracking and help you chase it down.
Can I place a recurring order or re-order the same design?
Yes — and it's easy. Trade account holders have their designs stored. All other customers can simply reference their previous order number and we'll pull up the file. Re-orders typically ship faster as no artwork review is needed.
Turnaround & Shipping

Delivery timeframes

When does the turnaround clock start?
Production time begins once your artwork is approved — not when you submit your order. If you submit at 3pm and we approve artwork at 9am the next day, Day 1 of production is that next day.
Do you ship to all states and territories in Australia?
Yes — we ship to all Australian states and territories including WA, NT, and regional areas. Delivery times to regional and remote areas may be 1–2 days longer than metro estimates.
Do you offer international shipping?
Not currently. We ship within Australia only.
How is shipping calculated?
Shipping is calculated based on order weight and delivery location. The cost will be shown before you confirm your order. We use tracked courier services for all orders.
Application Guide

How to apply DTF transfers

What heat press settings should I use for DTF transfers?
Standard settings are 160–165°C, medium-firm pressure, 10–15 seconds. Our transfers are cold-peel — let the transfer cool for 10–20 seconds before peeling the film. For thicker substrates like denim, increase to 165°C. For delicate fabrics, try 155°C and test a small area first.
What does "cold peel" mean?
Cold-peel means you wait for the film to cool down to near room temperature before peeling it off the garment. Peeling while still hot can cause the transfer to stretch or partially lift. Give it 10–20 seconds — patience here makes a big difference to finish quality.
What pressure should I use on my heat press?
Medium-firm is the target. If you have a pressure gauge on your press, aim for around 40–60 psi. If not, close the press and try to pull a sheet of paper out from under the platen — it should slide with moderate resistance.
Can I use a household iron instead of a heat press?
A household iron can work in a pinch but is not recommended for consistent results. Irons have uneven heat distribution, steam holes, and no pressure consistency. If you're applying more than a handful of transfers, a basic heat press will pay for itself.
My transfer peeled off after washing. What went wrong?
Wash failures are almost always caused by insufficient heat, pressure, or time during application. Check that your press is reaching the correct temperature, that you pressed for the full time, and that you waited for cold peel. If you followed all of these and still have issues, contact us — it may be a batch defect and we'll reprint.
How many washes will a DTF transfer last?
Our transfers are rated for 50+ washes under normal conditions (cold wash, inside-out, no tumble dry on high). Wash durability depends heavily on correct application — a correctly applied transfer will outlast one applied at the wrong temperature.
Gang Sheet Builder

Using the online builder

Questions about our free in-browser gang sheet builder. Open the builder →

What file format should I use with the gang sheet builder?
PNG with a transparent background. The builder is designed for PNG files — transparency lets you see exactly how your designs will sit on the sheet. If your file has a white background, the white area will print as white ink on the transfer.
What resolution (DPI) do my files need to be?
300 DPI at your intended print size is the target. The builder automatically checks each design and displays a colour badge: green (≥300 DPI), amber (200–299 DPI), red (<200 DPI). For 300 DPI, a 10cm × 10cm design needs at least 1181 × 1181 pixels.
How do I set the size of my design on the sheet?
When you upload a design, you set its print width in centimetres. The builder scales the height automatically to preserve the original proportions. You can also resize any design directly on the canvas by dragging its handles.
Can I put the same design on the sheet multiple times?
Yes. Use the quantity field when uploading a design to add multiple copies at once. All copies are placed on the canvas and can be moved independently.
How is the price calculated?
Gang sheets come in four fixed sizes: Small (60×30cm) $8, Standard (60×60cm) $14, Large (60×100cm) $22, Max (60×150cm) $32. All prices include GST. Sheet width is always 60cm with 58cm of printable area. The price stays fixed per sheet regardless of how many designs you pack onto it — fit as many as you can within the size.
What happens after I submit my gang sheet order?
We review your layout and files within 2 business hours. If everything looks good, we send a payment link. Once payment is confirmed, your sheet goes into production. If we spot any file issues we'll contact you before printing.
How long does a gang sheet order take?
Standard turnaround is 2–3 business days from payment confirmation. Express (next-day production) is available — mention it in your order notes or contact us before submitting. Shipping adds 1–3 days.
Can I reorder the same gang sheet layout?
Yes. Email us with your original order reference number and we'll reprint the same layout. No need to rebuild the sheet from scratch.
Trade Account

Trade account questions

How do I qualify for a trade account?
You'll need an active Australian Business Number (ABN). Fill in the application on our Trade Account page — it takes about 3 minutes. We review every application personally and aim to respond within 1 business day.
How does the tier system work?
Trade pricing has four tiers — Starter (15% off), Growth (20% off, from $500/month), Pro (25% off, from $1,500/month), and Enterprise (30% off, from $4,000/month). Your tier is calculated automatically based on your order spend over the previous 30 days.
Can I store my artwork for reordering?
Yes. Trade account holders have access to the My Artwork library inside their account. Upload up to 50 files (PNG, JPG, GIF, or PDF, up to 30MB each). From the library you can load any file directly into the Gang Sheet Builder with one click.
How do I track my order?
Every order moves through a status timeline — Accepted, In Production, Shipped. You'll receive an automatic email update at each stage. You can also log into your account and view the current status on your order page.
